SS-31

SS-31 / Elamipretide (Mitochondrial Peptide)

Mitochondria-targeting peptide studied for cellular energetics

Research Status: Investigational; multiple clinical trials Elamipretide MTP-131 Bendavia
Mechanism of Action

How it works

SS-31 concentrates on the inner mitochondrial membrane where it binds cardiolipin. By stabilizing cardiolipin it is thought to protect electron-transport efficiency, reduce reactive oxygen species, and preserve ATP production under stress.

Areas of Research

What the research explores

In published research, SS-31 has been studied in connection with the following. These describe findings reported in the literature — not approved uses, claims, or outcomes to expect.

  • Targets and stabilizes mitochondrial membranes
  • Studied for cellular energy (ATP) preservation
  • Investigated for age-related mitochondrial decline
  • Researched in heart-failure and rare mitochondrial disease
  • Reduces reactive oxygen species in models
Safety Profile

Adverse events & gaps

Investigational. Injection-site reactions most commonly reported in trials. Generally well tolerated.
