Tesamorelin
Tesamorelin
The only FDA-approved peptide for visceral fat reduction
How it works
Tesamorelin mimics endogenous GHRH to stimulate pulsatile GH release from the anterior pituitary. It selectively reduces visceral adipose tissue, particularly HIV-associated lipodystrophy, without significantly affecting subcutaneous fat or other tissues.
What the research explores
In published research, Tesamorelin has been studied in connection with the following. These describe findings reported in the literature — not approved uses, claims, or outcomes to expect.
- Significantly reduces visceral (abdominal) adipose tissue
- FDA-approved for HIV-associated lipodystrophy (Egrifta)
- Improves triglyceride levels and cardiovascular risk factors
- Enhances lean body composition
- Improves cognitive function in age-related studies
- Well-characterized safety profile from Phase III trials
Tesamorelin is the only FDA-approved peptide specifically for body composition, reducing visceral fat by an average of 15-18% in Phase III clinical trials.
Adverse events & gaps
FDA-approved with well-documented safety data. Potential edema, arthralgia, myalgia at higher doses.
